BISAK offers high-quality science education that provides the foundations for understanding the world through the specific disciplines of Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Science has changed our lives and is vital to the world’s future prosperity, and all pupils should be taught essential aspects of the knowledge, methods, processes and uses of science. Through building up a body of key foundational knowledge and concepts, pupils are encouraged to recognise the power of rational explanation and develop a sense of excitement and curiosity about natural phenomena. Our pupils are encouraged to understand how science can be used to explain what is occurring, predict how things will behave, and analyse causes.
In KS4 we offer three individual routes for Science; Biology, Chemistry and Physics. During this stage, pupils learn about the way science and scientists work within society. They consider the relationship between data, evident, theories and explanation and develop their practical problem solving and enquiry skills, working individually and in groups. They evaluate enquiry methods and conclusions both qualitatively and quantitatively and communicate their ideas with clarity and precision. All pupils will develop their understanding and skills in ways that provide the basis for further studies in science and related areas.
In KS3 Science we aim to ensure all pupils develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understand through the specific disciplines of Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Pupils will develop understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of science enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them. By the end of KS3 all pupils are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future. This gives all our pupils an excellent foundation for further studies at IGCSE and A levels.
BISAK offers three areas of study in AS and A level Science. The International Advanced Level replaces the international version of the Edexcel GCE A level in the subject. The International Advance Level is designed to be studied over two years, with the option of a one year AS level course.
Biology: Pupils that take the International Advanced Level in Biology will develop their knowledge and understanding of the different areas of biology and how they interrelate, looking at how biology contributes to the success of the economy and society. The units of study include genetics, animal systems, plants, ecosystems and energy through them. The program will encourage creative thinking and problem-solving.
Chemistry: Pupils will study aspects of chemistry that are often in the media and affect their lives. It is important that pupils have the necessary knowledge and understanding to explain many different aspects of contemporary chemistry. These areas include: climate change, green chemistry „ pharmaceuticals, chemistry research. The content of this specification includes the fundamental key concepts of chemistry needed for progression into higher education and employment.
Physics: Pupils that undertake IAL Physics will develop an understanding of how physics impacts their lives and the world. They will apply the power of rational scientific explanation to understand what is occurring, predict how things will behave, and analyse cases. Pupils will build upon their IGCSE knowledge and conceptual understanding of Physics through such areas as Mechanics, waves, light and be introduced to quantum and particle physics. All pupils will be equipped with the scientific knowledge and skills to understand the uses and implications of physics, today and for the future.
