Humanities - Psychology

IGCSE Psychology is an excellent introduction to Psychology and leads directly onto the A Level Psychology course. Psychology bridges between the arts-based and the science-based subjects, combining well with subjects like Science and Sociology.

This Edexcel IGCSE course is designed to encourage students to explore five big questions:

How do we see our world?
Is dreaming meaningful?
Do TV and video games affect young people’s behaviour?
Why do we have phobias?
Are criminals born or made?

Whilst exploring these five big questions, students will develop their skills as a psychological researcher and learn how to evaluate psychological studies.

Psychology is the science of the mind and behaviour and so the course focuses research through scientific principles. Students will learn about contemporary issues such as criminal behaviour, stress and conformity, methodology and memory.

This Edexcel GCE course is designed to focus on the topics of:

Social Psychology- exploring human behaviour that involves the individual’s relationship to other persons, groups and society.
Cognitive Psychology- looking at the role of cognitive processes in human behaviour. Processes include perception, memory, selective attention, language and problem solving.
Biological Psychology- understanding that cognitive psychology is about the role of cognition/cognitive processes in human behaviour. Processes include perception, memory, selective attention, language and problem solving.
Learning theories-exploring theories about learning from the environment and the effects of conditioning, reinforcement, punishment, the role of reward and social learning on the organism.
